Occupy Wall Street: The Real Grass Roots Revolution Powered by Pluto

In January 2008 as Pluto was about to enter Capricorn for the first time since America’s founding, I wrote: “Within the next seven years, America may have a second revolution that comes from within.” Occupy Wall Street could be the spark that ushers in the second American Revolution which this time around can be peacefully accomplished.

Since Pluto will not return to its natal position in the USA chart until February 2022, my prediction was based on challenging alignments by Jupiter, Saturn, and Uranus to Pluto during 2008-2015. As these planetary alignments unfolded they would also impact the USA chart’s natal Venus, Jupiter, and Sun. The planets and the sectors of the USA chart they rule represent the nation’s wealth and its banking system, the wealthy, the nation’s health and labor force, the USA’s self-identity and its leadership.

Pluto transforms. What has become corrupted and decayed must die so it can be transformed and reborn into something new. Pluto’s energies are so intense that most people try to avoid entering Pluto’s secret and dark domain. Pluto presides over the deepest and often most misunderstood aspects of life that most people are uncomfortable dealing with. Death, sex/reproduction, debt, opaque financial products, massive wealth, bankruptcy, taxes, entitlements, subsidies, insurance, wills/legacies, what is mined underground, and nuclear power are all ruled by Pluto.

Capricorn and its planetary ruler Saturn represent government, big business, and karma (the law of cause and effect). When Pluto entered Capricorn in 2008, suddenly all the debt that reached enormous proportions since Pluto transited Jupiter-ruled Sagittarius in 1995 began turning toxic. Capricorn and Saturn represents contraction and limitation; the influence of Pluto in Capricorn resulted in the economy sharply contracting into a “Great Recession.” Suddenly billions of dollars of privately-held debt was either added to the public debt and/or guaranteed by the government.

Soon a grass roots movement began of people who were disgusted with the government bailouts. But it didn’t take long for the Tea Party to be manipulated into a movement supported by corporate interests to promote their own agenda. “Freedom” and “taking back our country” become the code words to  help liberate corporations from government regulations and reforms intended to protect consumers and the environment.

Saturn’s square to Pluto during 2009-2010 coincided with the co-opting of the Tea Party into a political movement to further separate the nation into special interest groups supported by the status quo for the purpose of restricting the rights of others. Jupiter’s opposition to Saturn as both squared Pluto in 2010 helped to greatly expand corporate interests after the Supreme Court ruled they could donate unlimited amounts to politicians by creating “advocacy” groups who are not required to disclose their financiers. Who could be against a group with a name such as “Americans For Prosperity?” Yet a far more accurate description would be “Koch Industries For Koch Industries’ Prosperity.” Jupiter rules politics and religion. Besides taking over the Tea Party, corporate interests increased their support for groups with the most dogmatic religious beliefs and moral ideologies. Adding the extreme energies of Uranus into the mix, the summer 2010 alignment of Jupiter, Saturn, and Uranus squaring Pluto helped corporate interests use these extremist groups to elect judges and politicians in the midterm elections to perpetuate their agenda of self-interest.

The plutocrats (the 1%) didn’t become the wealthiest and most influential people in America by being ignorant of Pluto’s power. Downgrading Pluto in 2006 not only failed to prevent the financial crisis but also symbolized the 1%’s desire to trivialize Pluto so the 99% would be led to believe Pluto didn’t matter. The Tea Party gave away their power to the 1%. Occupy Wall Street has become the first grass roots movement to begin to grasp Pluto’s transformative power to change economic and societal structures for the benefit of all.

Eclipses are harbingers that major changes are unfolding which might not become evident until a couple months later. The July 1 Solar Eclipse in Cancer conjoined the USA Sun and opposed New York City’s natal Sun as the eclipse squared Saturn, Uranus, and opposed Pluto, creating a dynamic cross-shaped pattern in the sky. In the eclipse chart, the New Moon in its home sign Cancer in the sector of the nation’s outlook indicated public sentiment was beginning to shift.

Uranus in Aries and Pluto were closely squaring each other during July and early August, providing a preview before they exactly square each other seven times during 2012-2015. Squares motivate action, particularly since Uranus and Pluto are in the “crisis in action” phase of their cycle that began when the two planets conjoined in Virgo during 1965-66. Extreme behavior and shocking and unexpected events describe the energy of Uranus to initiate revolutionary change that assists Pluto’s transformative process. Group protest, rebellion, and revolution are ways that Uranus can overturn current conditions to spur reform. Uranus in Aries the first sign of the zodiac rapidly accelerates the pace of change and bold actions being taken for the first time. Uranus was in Aries the last time Uranus and Pluto squared each other (1931-1934).

The square of Uranus and Pluto illustrate how extreme the corporate/right wing agenda has tipped Saturn in Libra’s scales of equilibrium and justice out of balance to government that benefits the few at the expense of the many. Libra is the sign of relationships, peace and harmony, ruled by Venus the planetary energy ruling money, material assets, and the banking system. Pluto negatively expressed uses “other people’s money” to over-leverage.

The energies of Uranus were accentuated July 7-13 as Uranus from Earth’s vantage point appeared to be stationary in the sky as Uranus turned retrograde July 9.(1) The Moon in Pluto-ruled Scorpio and Venus in Cancer opposing Pluto in Capricorn that day indicated the campaign of the 1% to extract more money, material resources, and consumer protections from the 99% would soon face public opposition.

Mercury rules all forms of communications and is the planetary ruler of the eclipse chart located in the sector of the chart representing money and the financial system. The eclipse chart is a direct reversal of the USA natal chart as Mercury in Cancer is in the sector naturally ruled by Pluto opposing Pluto in Capricorn in the sector of wealth and material resources. In other words, individuals and small businesses are burdened with the highest debt and taxes are in essence subsidizing the plutocrats (the 1%) who are addicted to government handouts.

The 1% has conducted a brilliant mind control job to convince the 99% that the 1% should pay the lowest taxes and be free of any type of regulation so their wealth will eventually “trickle down” to the 99%. (Apparently the pipe became clogged after years of neglecting our nation’s decaying and outmoded infrastructure.)

Mercury in Cancer in a harmonious alignment to Uranus in the eclipse chart indicates the public’s receptivity to a new message advocating for the nation’s prosperity. Uranus ruling the sector of foreign matters in the chart indicates the message calling for a new movement would emanate from outside the U.S.

On July 13 when the Moon was in Cancer’s opposite sign Capricorn as Venus in Cancer squared Saturn in Libra, Adbusters issued a call for people to occupy Wall Street in the spirit of the protesters in Tahrir Square which began in a “Day of Revolt” in Egypt January 25 as Saturn in Libra appeared stationary retrograde in the sky.(2) (When Occupy Wall Street got underway, Saturn had returned back to the exact degree it turned retrograde when the Egyptian protests began.)

“Occupying” Wall Street was more than being inspired by the protests in Egypt and the Middle Eastern region who set up camp in the heart of these nations’ cities demanding regime change. Cancer is symbolized by the crab that carries its home on its back. The Cancer eclipse and planets in Cancer when the movement was hatched and activated represent a movement that first establishes a “base camp” as the foundation of the movement before marching forward.

The plutocrats push to further separate the nation was in stark contrast to Adbusters message to occupy Wall Street “to separate money from politics” that “would propel us toward the radical democracy of the future.” Adbusters described the radical and futuristic energies of Uranus operating at its highest level: democratic freedom for the 100%.

The USA was born with Saturn in Libra. As the USA marked its eighth Saturn return as a nation in August, public frustration was growing at the unfairness of the government guaranteeing bad investments. The 1% showed their “gratitude” by trying to strip away the rights of the other 99%.

With Saturn in Libra (2009-2012), governments are under pressure to make some very serious fiscal choices. Adbusters believes that 200,000+ people occupying Wall Street “for a few months” would force the government “to choose publicly between the will of the people and the lucre of the corporations.”

Adbusters called for “we the people” to Occupy Wall Street on September 17, the 224th anniversary of the signing of the Constitution. (“We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity...” ) [bolded emphasis mine]

Saturn exactly conjoining the Constitution’s natal Neptune in Libra describes the status quo lobbying the government to erode the Constitution’s ideals of “justice, domestic tranquility, and the blessing of liberty” for all.

Mars was in the last degree of Cancer September 17, exactly conjoining natal Uranus in the chart for the Constitution, indicating it was time to take action to insure that the freedoms guaranteed in the Constitution will be upheld that “promotes the general welfare” for 100% of the nation. Uranus in Aries exactly squaring the Constitution’s natal Mars in Cancer reinforces the call for public action to protect these rights enacted by the signers of the Constitution.

September 17th was not only Constitution Day but this year also happened to be the day that Pluto was stationary in the sky after turning direct the day before! A planet is particularly powerful when it stations from retrograde to direct motion. Pluto turning direct provided the perfect opportunity for Occupy Wall St. to bring to the surface of mass consciousness how corporate special interests are using the dark side of Pluto’s power to gain greater control over the government.

The kickoff for Occupy Wall St. began September 17 at 12:00 PM EDT where people gathered at the Bull sculpture at Bowling Green Park near Wall Street. Pluto rules the chart and is located in the sector ruling money and the banking system and is squared by Venus in the sector ruling corporations and government, with Uranus in the sector representing domestic security. (Uranus here describes Occupy Wall Street making Liberty Park as their “home” base.)

The Moon was in Taurus, the other sign of the zodiac ruled by Venus. Taurus is money, banks, material assets, and net worth. The sign of the bull has become the symbol of bull markets and Wall Street’s wealth since the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) was born with the Sun, Mercury, and Venus in Taurus. Uranus in Aries squaring the NYSE’s progressed Sun in Capricorn (2011-12) not only describes heightened market volatility where key support and resistance levels are broken, but also rebellion against Wall Street’s abuses.

America’s first public stock exchange was born with the Sun conjoining Mercury retrograde in Taurus squaring Pluto in Aquarius. The Moon’s energies are enhanced in Taurus which works to create greater financial security. At 3:00 PM when Occupy Wall St. convened the first People’s Assembly at One Chase Manhattan Plaza, the Moon in Taurus exactly conjoined the NYSE Mercury and squared the NYSE Pluto.(3) The public gathered to discuss and protest their desire to remove the toxins that have corrupted the financial system. Jupiter in Taurus describes these financial excesses and the unethical behavior of the nation’s biggest banks who are experts at manipulating the law without technically breaking it.

The Taurus Moon conjoining the NYSE’s natal Mercury also reflects how Occupy Wall Street mimics the traditional ways Wall Street communicates. The ringing of the “opening bell” at 9:30 AM marks the opening of the “people’s exchange.” The first edition of "The Occupied Wall Street Journal” debuted October 1 when the Moon was in Jupiter-ruled Sagittarius the sign ruling publishing.

Taurus energy is tenacious and stubbornly determined to achieve its desire. The Moon in Taurus indicates that the people who birthed this movement into being are determined to stay the course. The Moon in Taurus reflects Occupy Wall St.’s initially got off to a slow start but has steadily gained momentum and media attention.

Taurus’ planetary ruler Venus exactly opposed Uranus in Aries September 17 as both planets squared Pluto in Capricorn. The energies of Uranus were stronger as it was at its closest annual distance to Earth as it reached exact opposition to the Sun September 25. The strong Uranus energy reflects that many of the participants are young. Yet Uranus the humanitarian embraces everyone who shares the same objective. The movement’s description of itself perfectly describes this energy:

“Occupy Wall Street is a leaderless resistance movement with people of many colors, genders and political persuasions. The one thing we all have in common is that We Are The 99% that will no longer tolerate the greed and corruption of the 1%. We are using the revolutionary Arab Spring tactic to achieve our ends and encourage the use of nonviolence to maximize the safety of all participants.”

Uranus often indicates a reversal of current conditions. Yet Uranus in Aries represents starting something completely new and different as it issues its opening challenge to reverse Pluto’s status quo of operating from the top down. Venus in its home sign Libra reflects the movement’s goal to peacefully bring fairness and justice to government and the financial system. Venus in Libra energy recognizes its desires are achieved through relationships. “Occupy Together” is coordinating Occupy groups to spread the movement throughout the U.S. and abroad. Venus energy expressed through Libra values harmony, peace and bringing people together. This is in stark contrast to the anger and fear projected by the Tea Party movement. Saturn rules the police. Saturn in Libra reflects that although there have been clashes with law enforcement, the Occupy movement strives to have a peaceful relationship with the police.

The most frequently cited critique about Occupy Wall Street is that the movement lacks a clear objective. The Moon in Taurus squaring Neptune in Uranus-ruled Aquarius reflects this concern. But these energies also indicate the movement’s message transcends political boundaries.

The Moon was in Pluto-ruled Scorpio September 29 when the “Declaration of the Occupation of New York City” passed by unanimous vote at 8:00 PM. Pluto and Scorpio rule vampires. Symbolically the Moon in Scorpio squaring Mars in Leo and opposing Jupiter in Taurus defines Occupy Wall Street’s overriding objective as public warriors on a quest to shine the light of transparency and truth on corporate vampires who expand their wealth and power by draining resources from everyone else. Illegal foreclosures, bank bailouts and bonuses, exorbitant college tuition, outsourcing, nation building, are grievances cited in their Declaration that particularly resonate to these energies.

Venus is the ruler of the chart and exactly conjoined Saturn in Libra as the declaration was being voted, reinforcing the desire for financial accountability and justice. The Venus/Saturn conjunction describes the “list of demands for Congress” separate from the Declaration posted on the website  which strongly resonates to the energies of the Venus/Saturn conjunction.

The demands range from more stringent financial regulations such as restoring the 1933 Glass-Steagall Act enacted the last time Uranus in Aries squared Pluto which separated commercial from investment banking, additional funding and enforcement power for the SEC, limiting the influence of lobbyists, and legislation restricting corporations’ ability to spend unlimited amounts of money on political campaigns. It calls for eliminating “revolving door” relationships between Wall St. and Washington where politicians and government regulators leave the public sector for highly lucrative positions in the private sector to help corporations manipulate the system to their advantage.

The lineup planets in Libra (Sun, Mercury, Venus, Saturn) in the sector naturally ruled by Virgo in the Declaration chart (with Virgo and Libra ruling this sector in the chart) describes the quest for equal treatment and justice to address “human discrimination,” worker rights, animal cruelty, and the health of the nation’s food supply.

The Declaration chart’s Virgo sector focus reinforces the central focus of the Sun conjoining Mercury in Virgo on September 17. Jobs, healthcare, and the nation’s physical and economic health are the central focus. Since Mercury is at home in Virgo, it would be easy for Occupy Wall Street to craft a simple and efficient message into easily digestible sound bites. The weakness of this influence is a lack of a unified message from being bogged down in too many details. This combination together with the Moon squaring Neptune can be overly idealistic and more concerned about remaining “pure.” A hypothetical example would be if the movement believes they can achieve their objective without actively participating in the political system by voting and “marching” inside the Capitol.

Occupy Wall Street has already shown they are learning to harness Pluto’s power. Members of the Republican leadership, a few presidential candidates, and the corporate interests controlling the Tea Party movement would not be making disparaging remarks and launching propaganda campaigns against the protesters if they didn’t view the movement as a threat to their power. In keeping to the highest energies of Venus and Pluto so embedded in the birth of the Occupy movement and its message that transcends political boundaries, Occupy participants welcome all Tea Party members who share their goal of economic equality.

I consider Occupy Wall Street to be on a mission to save capitalism. Without a strong middle class base of customers, the capitalists will wither on the vine since 1% of America is far too small a segment of the population to sustain capitalism. The USA was born with Venus conjoining Jupiter in Moon-ruled Cancer, a planetary signature indicating the nation possesses great wealth and resources with the American people being the nation’s most valuable resource of all. Uranus and Pluto impacting the USA’s natal Venus/Jupiter during 2009-2013 represent the 1%’s efforts to bankrupt the nation to expand their wealth and influence.

The USA’s natal Sun/Jupiter conjunction in Cancer together with the Sun’s square to Saturn in Libra indicates the government must ensure capitalism is kept in balance. The current economic climate is the result of government failing to keep capitalism’s excesses in check. When Google Chairman Eric Schmidt talks about the need for “demand” to spur economic growth, he is indicating that there are times in the economic cycle when government must productively fill the void by creating jobs that shore up our nation’s infrastructure and support research and development which leads to tomorrow’s innovations. This is government spending that benefits the entire nation and reaps tangible results for years to come.

Now almost one lunar month later, Occupy Wall Street is facing their first challenge. One day after Mayor Bloomberg said Occupy Wall Street could stay in Zuccotti Park, the city announced the protesters must vacate the park by 7:00 AM October 14 so the park’s owner (Brookfield Properties) can clean the park. After the cleaning, protesters will no longer be permitted to bring tents, backpacks and other camping type gear into the park. Mercury entering Scorpio and the Sun conjoining Saturn in Libra today reflect the Mayor’s change of mind to impose some restrictions on the protesters by enforcing the park's rules and regulations.

There is no need for Occupy Wall Street and all the other Occupy movements to camp out 24/7 to initiate reform. The Virgo Sun on September 17 exactly squared the June 15 Lunar Eclipse in Sagittarius. In describing the energies of the eclipse, I wrote:

“What people communicate now can have far reaching effects that either enhance or detract one’s career and public reputation, since the internet has enabled anyone’s message to be heard around the world.”

In keeping with their objective of peaceful and law abiding protest and using the internet to spread their message, Occupy Wall Street should not stubbornly cling to the notion that physically occupying the park 24/7 is the only means to achieve their objectives. Instead the movement should view it as a sign that it’s time to move forward.

The nation’s outlook is shifting as the USA’s progressed Ascendant entered Virgo at the Autumn Equinox. Mars entering Virgo November 10 when the Full Moon is in Taurus as Neptune turns stationary direct can lift the veil of illusion that the financial system can change without public participation.

Mars in Virgo describes people marching for jobs and reforms to strengthen the nation’s health and wellbeing. Mars will be in Virgo until July 3, 2012 due to Mars retrograde January 23 to April 13. During this transit, Mars will square the November 25 Sagittarius Solar Eclipse which can activate global protests for jobs. Mars opposing the USA’s progressed Sun in Pisces which is squaring the USA’s natal and progressed Uranus in Gemini is likely to increase protests and individual rebellion against corporate and government leaders working to erode the nation’s social safety net.(4)

Occupy Wall Street’s Virgo Sun conjoins the USA natal Neptune which squares natal Mars in Gemini. The “American Dream” as the nation has come to know it has disappeared. The dream ended and now it’s time to wake up. Mars will turn direct April 13 squaring the November 25 Solar Eclipse as Venus in Gemini squares the USA’s progressed Pisces Sun and natal/progressed Uranus in Gemini. 
Then Venus in Gemini turns retrograde May 15 squaring the USA’s natal Neptune and Occupy Wall Street’s natal Virgo Sun as Mars in Virgo squares the USA’s progressed Sun and natal Uranus in Gemini.  The nation's values are changing. Corporate and government leaders face the twin reality of a nation demanding job creation and companies awakening to the fact that outsourcing is not nearly as profitable or logistically feasible as it once was.

Uranus in Aries squaring Pluto is challenging every individual to have the courage to harness Pluto’s power within. The 1% wants everyone to be negative and resigned that “the system” will never change because that’s what the media who depend on them for their survival would like to convince you to believe.

Aries is ruled by Mars. Yet Uranus in Mars-ruled Aries does not mean that war and bloodshed is an integral ingredient of the recipe of revolution. Uranus is what’s innovative and different and Aries is eager to be first to do something new. Uranus in Aries squaring Pluto in Capricorn can easily indicate radical change through the first peaceful revolution that works within the current structure to achieve its goals. The 1% works within the current system and so must those who want to change it.

Uranus in Aries is the power of each individual to enact change. If every American expressed their views to Congress as an individual and as a group and took the time to conduct their own research on all the issues and candidates from the local to the federal level before voting, then it doesn’t matter how much the 1% spends on elections.

After the 99% show their power is stronger than the wealth of the 1%, then the 99% can get the 1% to do THEIR bidding.

(1)Planets do not really turn retrograde but appear to from Earth’s vantage point. When a planet is retrograde its energies become more internalized. Uranus is retrograde until December 10.

(2)Saturn’s energies can be restrictive. The next day as Mercury the planet of communications in Capricorn squared Saturn retrograde, the Mubarak regime severely restricted communication by shutting down public access to the internet in Egypt in an attempt to curtail the growing protests. Saturn was retrograde until June 12, 2011.

(3)Pluto is the chart ruler as Scorpio was the sign rising on the eastern horizon at noon on September 17. The Scorpio Ascendant opposed the NYSE’s natal Sun. Pluto was rising on the eastern horizon at 3:00 PM when the People’s Assembly gathered for the first time. Saturn ruling this chart reinforces the theme of limiting corporate cash from corrupting Congress.
