Libra New Moon Cycle: September 29 – October 28, 2008

Add to GoogleThe word month is derived from the Moon. The new month actually begins when the Sun and Moon are conjoined. This is the New Moon, a time of new beginnings.

The Libra New Moon occurs on September 29 at 4:12 AM EDT. Libra is ruled by Venus, the planetary energy of beauty, attraction, and desire for harmony. Since Mercury is retrograde* in Libra until October 15, the Libra New Moon is the time to make a fresh start in reviewing and repairing relationships and agreements. Venus in Scorpio until October 18 puts the focus on intimate relationships, as well as all jointly-held financial arrangements.

Libra is symbolized by the scales of balance representing fairness and justice. It is no coincidence that the Supreme Court begins a new session the first Monday of October each year when the Sun is in Libra. Mercury retrograde in Libra at this New Moon is providing us with the opportunity to review and rethink our past attitudes, decisions, and judgments. Look at the picture called “Adjustment.” A woman is masked to show she’s impartial. This also represents the importance of inner contemplation. Libra energy has a strong need to connect with others, but first we need to be comfortable in our relationship with ourselves. The crescent Moons show she’s attuned to the cycles of life. When life is out of balance, adjustments are necessary in order to balance the scales.

The New Moon challenging Jupiter in Capricorn can provide a boost of confidence to take the initiative and re-establish contact with people you’ve done business with or tried to forge arrangements with in the past. Events that occur now could move forward after October 15, although plans made now will likely require further revision.

In the USA, a pessimistic outlook prevails over economic concerns. Most of the focus and news continues to revolve around the financial system. The New Moon challenges the USA’s natal Jupiter in Cancer, and Jupiter in Capricorn opposes the USA and President Bush’s Sun in Cancer, reflecting the belief that that nothing short of $700 billion will alleviate the financial crisis. Mars in Libra challenging the USA Pluto reflects the political infighting taking place, and how skewed the bailout bill is to helping out Wall Street’s most powerful players (the plutocrats). Major regulatory reform of the financial system and the financial exchanges will be discussed. New rules and regulations implemented now are likely to be adjusted later. Legal action will be taken against certain large market players. These actions will continue to keep the stock market choppy, gyrating in large moves of either direction. News on October 6 could give Wall St. a temporary reason to cheer. Debt rises, along with the costs for essential items. There could be problems with credit/using credit cards, so it’s important to at least have enough spare cash on hand to pay for necessities.

“Hotspots” indicate areas in the US and the world where major news events are more likely to occur. For the USA, the West Coast shows up in the entire lunar cycle. Globally, parts of Canada and the Middle East appear to be major hotspots.

USA Hotspots: Washington, Oregon, California, Arizona. Minnesota, Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida Panhandle. World Hotspots: northwestern Canada, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Central America, Ecuador, Peru, BRAZIL (Rio). UK, Rome, Russia, Ukraine. Turkey, Beirut, Syria, Israel, Jordan, Iraq, IRAN, Saudi Arabia, ABU DHABI, Oman. East Africa, esp. Ethiopia, Somalia, Kenya. Afghanistan, PAKISTAN, INDIA (Mumbai, New Delhi), China, (Beijing), JAPAN, Indonesia, Australia.

The First Quarter Moon, the midpoint between the New and Full Moon, occurs on October 7 at 5:04 AM EDT. The Moon and Jupiter in Capricorn challenge the Sun and Mercury in Libra. Contractual agreements could face legal alterations. In the USA, the national mood continues to be critical over the shocks to the financial system and how the government is handling the crisis. This may finally motivate financial institutions to (actually) start writing down mortgage interest rates and possibly principal (for their own benefit). What appeared to the nation to be some of the most “solid” partnerships – from marriage to business, are likely to break up. Diplomatic relations break down. USA Hotspots: Carolinas, Virginia, W. Virginia, DC, Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania (Philadelphia), central New York. Alaska, Washington (Seattle), Oregon (Portland), California (San Francisco), Arizona (Phoenix). World Hotspots: Vancouver, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, northwestern Mexico, Bahamas, Cuba, Haiti, Venezuela, Colombia, Peru, Bolivia, BRAZIL, Argentina. Ireland, Portugal, Sweden (Stockholm), Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Sarajevo, Russia, Georgia. TURKEY. SYRIA, Israel, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, IRAN. Central & East Africa, esp. Libya, Chad, Angola, Namibia, S. Africa (Cape Town), Ethiopia, Somalia, Kenya. Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, CHINA (Beijing), N. Korea, Japan, Vietnam, Indonesia, Australia (Perth, Alice Springs, Brisbane).

We’ve reached half-time in the lunar cycle at the Full Moon on October 14 at 4:02 PM EDT. If you want to announce or promote something to receive maximum attention, this is the time to do it! Emotions run high like the tides. The Full Moon sheds light on events that occurred around September 24 when Mercury went retrograde. The Moon in Aries opposes the Sun in Libra, illuminating the importance of being yourself in relationships. In the USA, the nation is restless for radical change and reform, but there is an atmosphere of confusion concerning the best way to do it. People take their concerns over financial security to the streets. USA Hotspots: Coastal Washington, Oregon, northern California. Wyoming, Utah, Colorado, Arizona (Phoenix). Louisiana, Florida, Georgia, Carolinas, Virginia, DC, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New York. World Hotspots: Vancouver/Vancouver Island, Newfoundland, southeastern Caribbean, Central America, Venezuela, BRAZIL, Bolivia, Paraguay, Uruguay, Santiago, Argentina. Now the Moon is decreasing in light – a time to review and reflect. The Last Quarter Moon occurs on October 21 at 7:55 AM EDT. The Moon in Cancer challenges the Sun in Libra. What does each family member need to feel physically and emotionally secure? In the USA, the Last Quarter Moon challenges the USA Pluto. Big secrets could be exposed about the Administration’s financial arrangements with other countries. A lot of dirty laundry could get exposed about corruption in the financial system and the government agencies that regulate the markets. USA Hotspots: Alaska, Washington, Oregon, California. Milwaukee, Detroit, Ohio, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, Florida Panhandle. Philadelphia.
