Virgo New Moon Cycle: August 30 – September 29, 2008
The word month is derived from the Moon. The new month actually begins when the Sun and Moon are conjoined. This is the New Moon, a time of new beginnings.
The second of two New Moons in the same calendar month, the Virgo New Moon occurs on August 30 at 3:58 PM EDT. Virgo is ruled by Mercury, the planetary energy of communication and movement. Information must be analyzed for its usefulness; details need to be specifically spelled out.
The Virgo New Moon is the time to make a fresh start in matters related to your job and professional endeavors. Labor Day celebrates the workforce every year when the Sun is in Virgo. Most of the country’s schoolchildren start school during Virgo’s cycle each year. Virgo rules schedules, and this is the time of the year when many people return to a more structured schedule. Virgo rules our daily routine, diet, health and hygiene. Specifically, Virgo rules the digestive system. All goods and services that we need to survive relate to Virgo. Virgo is symbolized by the maiden holding a shaft of wheat. Virgo is called the Virgin, a person who is self-contained and wholesome from living a healthy lifestyle.
During the first half of the cycle, Saturn in Virgo conjoins The New and First Quarter Moons, and harmonizes with Jupiter in Capricorn. The period between August 30 and September 15 is the time to get organized and attend to all the details that tend to get pushed aside, particularly in the matters that Virgo rules. For example, Saturn rules the teeth and Virgo hygiene, so this is a good time to get your teeth cleaned/checked. Saturn provides the discipline and drive, and Jupiter the enthusiasm and optimism that taking care of routine matters, cleaning/organizing your physical environment, and your physical/mental body is the way to wholeness. Jupiter and Saturn represent influential people; take the necessary steps to get yourself and your work noticed. Virgo, Capricorn and Capricorn’s ruler Saturn, are earth energies which correlate to financial matters. Look at your personal balance sheet. What’s going out? Coming in? Examine what you genuinely need to survive and work your analysis from there.
In the USA, the New Moon challenges the USA’s natal Uranus in Gemini, indicating a month of shocks and surprises facing the nation. There could be major power, transportation, shipping, and other disruptions that affect people’s schedules and daily living. The nation is faced with some very serious and deep seated issues coming to the surface now. With Mars in Libra challenging Jupiter, the Bush Administration is concerned with foreign affairs and is likely to be overconfident that their efforts will be successful. Inflation continues to rise. The focus is on personal and national debt, and foreign investment in the US. Lending gets tighter, creating more problems for consumers as well as banks refinancing their debt. A prominent leader or elder statesperson could transition. (Related Post: “What Barron’s Is Not Telling You About Fannie & Freddie’s Survival”)

The First Quarter Moon, the midpoint between the New and Full Moon, occurs on September 7 at 10:04 AM EDT. The Sun and Saturn in Virgo challenge the Sagittarius Moon. Do your beliefs/philosophical views serve you or do they serve someone else? With Uranus challenging the Sun and Moon, it’s a wake up call to break free of outmoded beliefs. Sagittarius is ruled by Jupiter, which has been retrograde* since May 9 and is now moving direct. Pluto, the planetary of transformation, is also moving direct now after being retrograde since April 2. Mercury and Mars challenging Jupiter can make people (especially world leaders), dangerously overconfident of their stance. People can be a bit more impatient and irritable in their behavior which affects their driving, so be cautious.
In the USA, there’s a lot to think and talk about. Economic conditions continue to fluctuate. Sharp price movements dominate financial markets. Property values continue to decline. Politics focuses more on pocketbook issues now.

We’ve reached half-time in the lunar cycle at the Harvest Full Moon on September 15 at 5:13 AM EDT. If you want to announce or promote something to receive maximum attention, this is the time to do it! Emotions run high like the tides. The Sun in Virgo opposes the Moon in Pisces. Pisces relates to intuition, dreams, and the unconscious. The Full Moon highlights the importance of incorporating intuition and vision into our daily lives and work. All creation begins with a vision, but that vision does not serve a purpose if it remains a dream.
In the USA, issues revolve around national identity and alliances/partnerships with others. The banking system/economy is on people’s minds. Government spending is on the rise. The stock market makes large moves in both directions, but with a greater downward pressure. Uranus and Pluto energies are prominent now, showing how challenging these times are for most Americans. This harvest time does not appear to be bountiful. Health care and the need for universal health care coverage will be a political hot button now.

Now the Moon is decreasing in light – a time to review and reflect. The Last Quarter Moon occurs on September 22 at 1:04 AM EDT. Again Pluto challenges the Sun in Virgo and the Moon in Gemini. This is the time to do your own research instead of over relying on hearsay. Mercury conjoins Mars in Libra. People tend to be impatient and want to resolve things in a hurry. With Mercury about to turn retrograde on September 24 until October 15,** agreements/arrangements might unravel. In the USA, the public is exposed to an avalanche of information, particularly about cover-ups involving transportation safety and hospitals/health care providers.
