Georgia, Russia, and the USA: All About Oil
I wrote in a post about the August 1 Leo Solar Eclipse that eclipses are harbingers of major change. The energies become more unstable between the Solar and Lunar eclipses (August 1-16), as actions taken during this time are not likely to turn out as planned and have unpredictable consequences. The ancients believed that an eclipse in the sign Leo would be detrimental to world leaders. They believed areas in the path of the eclipse would be adversely affected. Russia and China were in the path of the Total Eclipse. The exact midpoint between the Solar and Lunar eclipses was the First Quarter Moon in Scorpio on August 8, the start of the Beijing Olympics. This was the day that Georgia and Russia declared they were at war with one another.
Tensions between the two countries had been building for some time. Georgia is a staunch ally of the US and is seeking NATO membership. Russia feels threatened by its former Soviet states becoming part of the NATO alliance, along with the Bush Administration wanting a missile defense shield system in the Czech Republic and Poland.
In a post on Mars in Virgo, I wrote that on August 6 Mars would oppose Uranus in Pisces: “Agree to disagree with another to avoid potential conflict. This alignment affects the USA’s Mars in Gemini and Neptune in Virgo, so it raises the possibility of major accidents and/or escalated military action.” The USA Mars challenging Neptune in Virgo indicates that most military operations the USA gets involved in revolve around oil, drugs, or idealistic belief systems such as communism, as these issues are all ruled by Neptune. Neptune also rules deception. The underlying reason why the US engages in military action abroad is usually masked by an idealistic belief or vision to rally the American people around.
In the Weekly Forecast for that day I wrote about how it could affect the stock market and computer systems and stock data transmissions. The stock market turned out just fine, but it was the beginning of the Georgia/Russia situation. Mars represents the military and military aggression, and Uranus unexpected and sudden action, as well as technology and the internet. Russia began attacking Georgian government websites in what computer security experts are calling the first time cyberattacks were employed so publicly alongside a military assault. On August 6, following weeks of clashes between Russia and Georgia over the breakaway region of South Ossetia within Georgia, Georgian forces began a two day offensive into South Ossetia.
The August 8 First Quarter Moon in Scorpio conjoined the natal Sun of the horoscope of the founding of the Soviet Union. Scorpio rules spying, covert activities, and hidden agendas. The Cold War never ended; Russia just needed some “time out” to regroup and get the oil and gas revenues flowing in. The First Quarter Moon also conjoined Pluto (Scorpio’s ruler) in the June 12, 1990 horoscope. This was when the Declaration on Russia’s National Sovereignty was adopted. This event is officially celebrated as the “Day of Russia” every year. The Gemini Sun in this chart conjoins the USA’s natal Mars, indicating the US is more likely to be at odds than in agreement with Russia’s leadership.
The horoscopes of Prime Minister and former president Putin and Russian President Medvedev challenge planetary alignments in the USA chart. The Scorpio Quarter Moon conjoined Medvedev’s Mars and Neptune in Scorpio; he firmly believed it was time to take military action against Georgia. Transiting Saturn in Virgo conjoined Medvedev’s natal Mercury earlier this week when he agreed to a provisional cease-fire brokered by French President Sarkozy. Putin’s Sun in Libra challenges the USA Cancer’s Sun and President Bush’s Sun, indicating a clash of egos where neither side is willing to acquiesce.
Medvedev, Putin, and Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili were all born with alignments between the Sun and Uranus; all have Venus in Scorpio. Leaders with the Sun/Uranus alignments have tended to express this energy dictatorially. (Other examples of leaders with the Sun/Uranus alignment are the late Saddam Hussein, Iran’s Ahmadinejad, and North Korea’s Kim Jong Il.) These are leaders who will not behave “according to plan.” Their behavior is erratic, unpredictable and brash. On the flip side, Sun/Uranus can represent an individual who holds freedom and individuality in high regard. This is how the West views Saakashvili, although the Financial Times reported earlier this year that last November he shut down a private TV station in Georgia. Allegations of corruption have also surfaced. From a diplomatic perspective, it could be difficult to get Venus in Scorpio individuals to completely adhere to all the terms of any agreements as they are likely to be engaging in secret actions and dealings the other side is unaware of.
So where does this leave the US? Mars in Virgo challenged the USA’s natal Mars which is located in the house of the horoscope representing diplomatic alliances as well as open enemies. Saturn in Virgo is challenging the USA Uranus that also resides in this area of the USA horoscope. Yesterday President Bush announced US humanitarian aid and assistance had been sent to Georgia as Saturn exactly conjoined his Mars in Virgo, indicating he felt pressured to act. (Apparently the folks at The Wall Street Journal’s editorial board believe they were the impetus that helped motivate him.)
Looking at the charts for the USA, Georgia, and Russia, and their respective leaders for the short term, it appears that key times in this drama will likely be around August 15-17, 23, 25, 30. If the situation is not resolved by the end of this month, it could get worse during the first half of September, especially around the First Quarter Moon on September 7. Mercury, Venus and Mars in Libra challenge Jupiter in Capricorn. Jupiter’s energies are especially powerful as the planet is stationary direct.* Leaders might tend to be too confident in their ability to expand their influence/reach regarding another nation. They’re more likely to want to be aggressive rather than compromise. Jupiter harmonizes with Saturn for the second time. One of these leaders might be forced to step down or cede major concessions. Pluto will also turn stationary direct in late Sagittarius. The planetary energy of power and transformation is conjoining Saakashvili’s Sun and challenging natal Uranus in Virgo.
Once again the US is getting involved over energy supplies under the guise of the Administration’s “freedom agenda.” The Bush Administration strongly supported the development of the BTC (Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan) and Nabucco pipelines that run through Georgia as a way to get oil and gas supplies to the West without going through Russia. Clearly, having one’s own abundant energy supply is a matter of national security.
*Planets do not really move backwards, but appear to from Earth’s vantage point.
