James Altucher’s column in today’s Financial Times (see link below) highlights a few stocks that may benefit when the baby boomer generation eventually makes their final journey – the business of death.
It’s interesting that as the oldest boomers become eligible for Social Security in 2008, Pluto (death) enters Capricorn (old age) until 2024. Capricorn is ruled by Saturn who is often called “the grim reaper”.
Examining what sign Pluto is in gives insight into society’s evolving views of death. Pluto in Scorpio (the sign Pluto rules) from 1983-1994 made the whole subject of death more transparent. Pluto in Sagittarius (1995-2008) saw the substantial rise in cremation. This is due to Sagittarius being a fire sign and its rulership over traditional religions. Religions that previously forbade cremation now allow it.
Capricorn is an earth sign. Jupiter (religion, ceremony) will be in Capricorn as well from December 18, 2007 to January 6, 2009. Add Saturn in Virgo (another earth sign) until 2010. Initially there will probably be a trend back to traditional funerals and burials. At the same time though, you’ll see new methods of burial developed that are able to humanely and safely use the body as a “compost”. This will be the environmentally friendly way to do “ashes to ashes, dust to dust” without taking up land and casket space, as well as eliminating the pollution emanated from cremation.
As far as James’s talk about time travel, Saturn/Capricorn is also called “Father Time”. Pluto in Capricorn will certainly transform the concept of time and space as we know it. I think teleportation will become reality by 2024. Rediscovering our lost past history (something else Capricorn rules) will show us the way.
